Emu Hatch Along! :D

It's SO exciting to be reading along with everyone's adventures! I have 36 eggs on day 32 and another 12 on day 11. I've been weighing them weekly and tracking their progress. I hope we have a good hatch rate!
36????? WOW.

What are you gonna do with all of them?

My friend actually raises them. They are a major source of his income. I just hatch them for him. What I don't know is what we're going to do with all the extra eggs. There are five different pairs/trios still laying up a storm and the 2 cabinet incubators are at max capacity all ready!

Does anyone know how long an emu egg will keep and still be good before I get in into the incubator?

I don't know for sure but I would guess atleast 10 days, maybe more. I would love to hatch an emu egg. Can't keep it but they are sooo cute! you aren't in Oklahoma by any chance are you ? lol

No, I'm in the Pacific NW. Oh but, if you wanted to try it, you could buy a few eggs I could ship them to you and you could sell off the babies!!! The chicks sell for quite a bit more than the eggs. All the fun of hatching and playing with out the responsibility of raising!!! (Kind of like an emu grandparent!)

My husband would kill me if I bought an emu egg. He would think I was keeping it. And it would be hard to sell it when it is so cute as a chick. If I had someone I was hatching it for, I would have to give it up lol

40 days before any thing affects the hatching rates. It's because in the wild a male waits up until he gets up to 11 eggs before he starts sitting and the girls lays an egg every three days so like, that's about 33 days for the eggs to be sitting around in the wild for some clutches.

OH THAT"S GREAT NEWS! Thank you so much! That will give me time for the eggs that are sitting to cycle through before I start a new batch! Thank you thank you!
