Emu passed away suddenly is 27yrs old short?

Hi. I saw our emu, Bob, this morning and he seemed fine later I went out and he was on his side, No external injuries, no blood, just dead
He was about 27 years old. I feel like I missed something.
The lifespan is all over online, anyone have any real world experience with old ages, death?

Wow! I think 27 is an old old emu. You sure are right: the data on-line is awful.

So: I've read of ten being old in the wild, and 15 being old in captivity.

I knew Eric the Emu for ten years, and I think he was a grizzled mature bird when I met him -- certainly didn't seem an inexperienced bird.

Felicity Emu was sighted about two years ago. So she was 15 then.
