Hi- I have 2 emu about 5 months old. 1 has a cold? For 2 months I've seen it sneeze snot occasionally but hoped it would pass- it seems healthy other than that. Today it's nose looks runny-
I'm going to speak to my vet but before I do any thoughts or advice. My vets are typical cat and dog people so hoping to give him some other people's thoughts when I call.

If its been going on for a while it seems like it shouldn't be a cold. Could it be irritated by dust or something like that?

young emus sometimes develop respiratory problems, often developing a bloody phlegm, which they shake their head to discharge. It can be so bad that it makes a gurgling sound from the thick, loose mucous. Kept on a good diet, they usually outgrow it without any long range effects.

Thank you - that's really helpful- that is how she is- but not gurgling- thank goodness. Will google what you said.
Her diet is Turkey feed- with carrots, cabbage, Apple and grass to graze.

Could I help her with antibiotics? If I had vet input- what should o suggest he do/give? My vets are dog and cat type so would be happy telling him what I wanted.

She's had it few months now... Hoped it would clear up Sooner.

If it requires antibiotic two options are baytril strong strength. And also trimethoprim.

Hi- thanks!
I have recently finished a course of Baytril, there was some improvement before, but this seems to have given it a big push.... Didn't like to leave it too long before winter set in. I think as also said with age and it growing out of it- but thought winter would only hinder and linger it..
Thanks for everyone advice- what knowledgeable bunch everyone is!
