Hi there, I'm new here and I have raised a lot of birds from quail to young geese, I have been recently thinking in hatching out an emu as they sell them online, is there any way j can tell is the egg is fertile when I first get it, and the humidity do I add water or just leave it until they start chirping or rolling? I usually add water when my quail and chicks start pipping the eggs but in wandering if it's any different with emus??

There are EMU threads that could best prepare for hatching. Several of the chicken people have emus also and from time to time they are gone over hatching protocol. They seemed to rely most on the weight of the egg, it should lose a certain percentage as the incubation gets farther along. I think it's 50-55 days before they hatch, so quite a long commitment to seeing it through.

Try putting "EMU incubation" in the searchbox and see what comes up.
