For the first time I provided power to the 40 watt coop light. It's on a timer set to come on at 6:30 am. It's circuit has a photo cell that will shut it off when daylight gets strong enough. It's also set to shut off at 8:30 pm. This will give 14 hours of light. I have read that is optimal. Got 2 of 8 in the nesting boxes. They seem to prefer two of the boxes consistantly. They fill the other boxes with poop instead of eggs. I clean the boxes daily. I get a very consistant 5 eggs per day from my young girls. 4 ISA Browns and 1 Australorp are now laying consistantly.
