Moving my flock, and wanting to set up a new duck house. I was thinking a wooden building 12 x 12 atleast. Hubby is thinking an enclosed metal carport with a roll up door. Anybody use a carport for shelter? I would be putting smaller doghouses, or enclosures for them to sleep in. Wasn't sure about ventilation on it, and if it would be good in the winter. I'm in NC, hardly ever snows, but it gets low teens. Will it hold their body heat in? Any suggestions, or advice is welcome, thanks.

You don't need anything to 'hold heat' in NC...and I imagine ducks need ventilation just like chickens do....much more important than 'holding heat'.

I answered on your other thread.

Thanks, but I'm in NC, so I think I know the weather better.
My daughter lives there, so I know the weather pretty good.
Even if you are up in the mountains, it's not going to get as cold as it does in Michigan or other northern states.
My point was, not very well expressed, that......you need good ventilation, lots of it, which makes 'holding heat' a moot point.
