Thanks, Karen. Been working on this and piecing the log cabin blocks. I have this much done so far (not in the final order, exactly-just stuck them up there so Ellie could see how the design forms by placement of red and green sides)
The log cabin would seem to be a very easy quilt to make. Just cut all same size strips and attach with 1/4" seam allowances, right? Well, sometimes, my blocks were coming out off sizes. No idea why, but I was having to trim them up to make them square. I found this little gem on someone's blog, an amazingly easy way to piece the log cabin block that seems to come out much more exact and square; this particular tutorial is called the "easy peasy log cabin". Super simple and I've been using it with the last 20 blocks or so. It really works! And you end up finishing a bunch all at once rather than one at a time, so it seems to go much, much faster, too.
