Here's my 'South City' coop. It is truly designed for BACKYARD chickens who reside in a small urban backyard. Not only does the coop need to fit a small urban space, it has to be attractive to the neighbors while still being safe and functional. The coop is designed to hold 4 to 5 standard sized hens.

I've had issues with the images uploaded here, so I'm linking to them in Flickr until the bugs are worked out. I hope that doesn't disqualify me.

I don't know if my coop will be finished in time! We're using beams and hand-milled timber from an elderly gentleman friend who recently passed away. He ran his own saw mill. The beams are oak! The coop is going to be 12' x 18' raised with a run on both sides and underneath.

I am almost done with building my first coop. All that is left is the interior and constructing the run for it. I submit this as I should be finished with it before full blown winter gets here. I am probably going to wait until Spring to get my flock of 4 RIR Hens together as it might be to cold for me to get them right now.

I'm so excited, I created a BYC page for the building of my coop. It's still a work in progress, and I'm still learning. Hope it will be done by Thanksgiving!! The chickens are quickly outgrowing the brooder!
