Enlisting the stud services of a feral rooster

Good call LeslieB. He loves his tree. One time, he wass in it and some tree guys came to prune the tree. He sat there the whole time as they pruned off all the foliage leaving him rather exposed. Would not budge for an instant. I will be building him a "quarantine" cage today. Any suggestions on the list of medical procedures that I should run him through to ensure good health?

Well, you want to quarantine him for at least 30 days. Check him over for lice and mites. Just monitor him really closely for any issues like runny nose, bubbly eyes, swollen eyes, rattly breathing. If he exhibits any of those symptoms, you don't want to introduce him to your flock at all. Make sure you don't wear the same clothes and shoes around him that you do your existing flock. I'd take care of your flock first, and then him last every day. If he does have lice or mites, you can treat them before you introduce him to your girls. If he's been on his own for a long time, he may also need to be wormed.
I wouldn't try to get him out of that tree during the day, even though he didn't budge when it was being trimmed. Wait till the sun goes down and he's roosting for the night. You should be able to get him then. Good luck!
