From the very first moment the chicks arrived I knew Chickzilla the pullet was going to be big... and BOSSY. But i didn't think my poor little roo would be running away from here in TERROR.

She treats the other pullets like they are HER girls. She even tries to fluff up her neck and chase the boy.. but YES she is INDEED a girl.

Now I know I will get one major response... CULL HER. well I don't want to cull her. First of all she hasn't even started laying yet and my flock is still young. So I would like slightly more productive responses than to kill her. Shes not aggressive to people and isn't overly aggressive to other birds other than my one little boy. Shes EXTREMELY protective of her girls and with the number of predators around here in Texas that's not a bad thing.... but... .

I don't know what the deal is... but will she grow out of thinking shes a boy and start acting like a girl and stop terrorizing my poor little guy... hes so scared of her that hes never tried to crow and spends most of his time hiding in the hen house... I cant blame him really.

Chickzilla (I need an updated picture... shes grown a LOT).

I wouldn't cull her either. It sounds like your little guy is still young and is just smaller for now, but don't worry about it in a few months your little guy will be bigger and will turn into the big dog of the flock. As long as he's not a bantam he will grow into the job. What your seeing now is just normal pecking order stuff and it's just as important for the girls as it is in roo;s. The pecking order starts at a few days old and lasts a lifetime that's just life for a chicken.Things will settle down once their a little older. As long as nobody is bleeding just leave them alone they will work it out for themselves much faster than you can by interfering because it's is going to happen no matter what.
I have a white rock roo that got a smack down almost daily from the bigger girl when he was young but is the top guy of the whole flock now at 14 months old. Your little guy will grow into his own just give it time. Pecking order stuff looks worse to us than it really is and chickens are tougher than you think.

Dan is completely right. Just give them some time. She will always want to be top dog in the flock, but one day, he will have enough and turn her around. He just has to mature and you better hope you are there when it happens, LOL. It's quite a show............Pop

I have an EE that's a bully. As soon as my babies are integrated, she is going in the brooder(dog kennel) inside the coop for a few days. She picks on every single hen. I've jailed her before and it worked. Somehow she got into her old habits.

I hope jailing works again. Otherwise, I'll have to make saddle pads for all the others. The lowest in the flock has a saddle on now, the EE moved onto another hen. I need to make more and saddle all. Luckily I have all the supplies needed and a sewing machine.

I'm not giving up this EE. I'll build another coop if I have to. She is the sweetest thing to us. She especially loves my husband, which is really funny! He rarely, if ever, pets the chickens. They are all my responsibility.

well its good to know that this is normal!

lol Chickzilla is just so huge that when she decides to go for my little roo she can really terrorize him. Hes less than half her size. He tried to crow this morning for the first time... and chickzilla came running out of the hen house and chased him around the run for it. Poor guy. How humiliating. ;)

Hes a pheonix. Very pretty guy too. Ive been told that they are a little slower to mature but thats ok.

Nope, I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure your boy has somewhere he can go to escape attack if he needs to and let things sort themselves out.

She could be my EEs sister! Size- and attitude-wise, too. This was our flock bully until we got our roo.

She's still the largest hen and lays the biggest frickin' blue eggs I've ever seen (puts our BR and BA right to shame). She's also quite a bit more squirrely than any of the rest, but all things considered, she was aptly named Dragon.
