ENOUGH NEST BOXES??

I have 10 girls, 8 of which are laying (now that I think about it...One of them must not be laying yet - the second one not laying is younger so that's why all ten aren't laying yet).
I have 4 nest boxes. Only the lower two get used.

The hose in the photo is hooked up now, so that isn't the problem. I think they just like the ease of getting into the bottom boxes although, they get up even higher for the roost every night.

Just wondering #23 (I still just love your cat) do the hens use the upper or the lower boxes more?

That's definitely one of my favorite pics of Boris.

As for the chickens, they only use the lower boxes. I'm not even sure if any of the adults have ever looked into the upper boxes - the younger ones have taken dust baths in the upper boxes (filled with sawdust).

I have put my nest boxes under the poop board where it's darker. Its seems they like that side for laying. Less traffic, darker, maybe the feeling of more privacy.
