We're moving our hens from the detached garage to the real coop. Got some pigs, and the coop is large enough to house everyone.
I was going to build an enclosed fence around the back of the coop for the chicken run, but that's going to be $$. The coop is about 40ft long and I was going to bring the fence out ~20ft (giving them 800st feet of yard). That seems too small. It's larger than they have now, but right now they can fly over the fence if they want. The proposed set-up would be roughly 30sq ft per bird. It will cost $350 - $500 when everything is said and done (fence, posts, building a roof, door, etc).
Should I just spend a little more to make the run larger, since I'm already this committed? Or maybe just put up a larger fence that they could fly out of but probably won't if they have a bigger area?
