Hi, I'm a longtime member but finally probably a first time poster. I work in waterfowl rehab but separately run my own mini rescue for domestic ducks, geese, and pigeons that somehow people drop off at the rehab. I have one duck that is a temporary stay I'm caring for as a favor for my boss, so I feel more pressure than usual. This duck was diagnosed with potodermatitis (bumblefoot) by a vet and reccomended surgery without a basic kernel or a round of antibiotics, was reccomended against wrapping and soaks, and when the finder wanted to try those before surgery, they turned her away. The soaks have brought swelling down, but nothing's come to a head and any sign of scabbing is gone, but that swelling still exists. I tried a round of doxycycline as it was what was available at the time but didn't really do anything. I'm going to try a round of Baytril to cover my bases (no abraisions even left on the foot, but I worry maybe the infection is contained in the joint or she may have had a bout that turned into arthritis while the finder had her). She's a pekin (regular not jumbo) on the lighter end as she was a dumped duck. I have Enrofloxacin 20% Powder which contains 20g per 100g. The dosage listed on the bag is 1tsp per gallon of drinking water (I'm aiming for around 5 days). I have health problems and am a little brain fogged so even though I am generally equipped to do this, my brain is just not working with me today. How much do I give her? I don't use big gallon dishes with the two I have together in special care as my other patient could get stuck. Any dosage assistance will really help. *PS I know the vet was bullshitting, they're notoriously bad at duck care there and wanted to charge her starting at $500 before even actually looking at the duck. This duck is probably about 7 or 8lbs.
