my sons chickens were eating a dead possum in his front yard is this normal of is it just revenge will it hurt them?

Chickens are omnivorous, which means they will eat anything (including meat). Hopefully the 'possum didn't die of disease...

But yah, it's normal for chickens to take advantage of any food source they discover.

I think they just heard possum can be very tasty - Lol.

On the serious side, I don't know if they can be harmed by eating dead animals. I imagine it would depend alot on it being a fresh kill, as opposed to road kill stiff as a board and stinking up the neighborhood. Or the reason the animal was dead. If from disease= rabies or something , no one or thing should be touching it.

As for me, I would NOT let the chickens feast on anything I didn't give them. Hopefully someone who really knows will be around to answer this properly.

What you have there are southern chickens, northern chickens hunt and eat moose.
