Er, uh... bedding?

Great. Thanks for the clarification. On that subject:
I can get lots of wood shavings, but also wood dust - for free. I was considering using wood pellets as litter just because I hear it breaks down slower. (I'm looking to maybe clean it out every 6mo.) Wood wood dust be useful, helpful, aweful? Would shavings be less than ideal? I live in a very dry climate.
 
Sawdust is almost always Real Dusty. In a dry climate this would be even worse. Dust being bad for chickens (as well as annoying), I would suggest sticking with your shavings for the coop.

Sawdust, composted with poo scraped off a droppings board or with other livestock manure or with any other high-nitrogen material, will compost down into a nice soil amendment for the garden. That is what I woudl do with it, myself
