Here's a good article on hatching eggs, with another link within the article on candling...with loads of pictures. The article also discusses incubators, with a link to making your own.

I used a cheap one when I hatched my ducks, it was like, £40, the Amazon 16 incubator, on amazon--- It wasn't great, I will definitely be replacing it before my next hatch.Thanks. I marked the eggs. How do I tell if they're alive?
I don't have an incubator-any ways to make one, or are there (relatively inexpensive) ones that are good? (I don't have a job, so I don't have much money))
You're in Western Washington, right? If you're at all close to Enumclaw, I've seen a few incubators at the auction, that ended up selling for under $50. You can look online at all the items for sale and put in a bid online, you just have to pick them up in person. You might want to check Craigslist or the marketplace for used incubators to keep prices down.
Ok, I'm not super close to Enumclaw, but I'll see. Thanks! You're in Western Washington, right? Lemon, that's amazing! What wonderful good news! I hope you can find a good one you can afford!I realized I have a $100 dollar Coastal Gift Card-are any of their incubators good/reliable? (I can spend a little more than that, but, like say if they have one for 150, but I don't think I can spend $160 on an incubator say from TSC)
(I also definitely don't need one that big, are there any downsided to having too big of an incubator?)I'm looking at one of the incubators, a $120 one. On the coastal site it doesn't have any reviews, but on Amazon, it has the same product, with reviews (I was just looking for reviews)
Some reviews are good, some are bad, but I think if I'll only have to pay an extra $20 it might be worth it. Thought? It doesn't look fancy, but I don't care about that.

Yeah, I think I might just end up spending more and splitting the price with my sister to get the Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 one. It's great that it has the egg-turner and humidity sensor, the only thing I might question is, it says it's made out of styrofoam...Seems to me it could get damaged easily, or shed little pieces that wouldn't be safe for the chicks. Might be fine if the inside is covered with something else?
