Hey all,
I have always had a thing for black and white animals so I was drawn to the Erminette. Since I already had Ameraucana I figured Erminette Ameraucanas (EA) would be a fun project. First question is about choosing a rooster. I have 2 roosters to select from. They are 6 months and so far no aggression. I know the EA are not a recognized breed but the do have an SOP. I like roo 1 more he seems to have more of an Ameraucana look. Wanted to see what you all thought.

Next question how do breeders, expeditionist cull the unwanted roosters? I either sell them on CL, take to the Poultry auction, or freezer camp. I'm ok with any of the 3. I'm just wondering if you sell birds don't you risk flooding the market? I mean I know the spotting gene is dominant trait in the EA roosters. So by selling other breeders can use them for breeding too. Just trying to figure out my best option. I have 4 roosters in the pen right now and they are starting to get grabby twords the hens if you know what I mean.

I'd agree with you and pick rooster 1. He looks older despite being the same age which says to me that he matures faster and will pass superior genetics onto his offspring.
You can do any of the three options.
I never worry about "flooding the market" as you say. However, roosters are all too common and hard too sell so I don't usually bother if he would make a good meal.
Rarely do the birds I sell ever make it to a competition but if they do I'm proud of the exhibitor. It must be mentioned that the birds I sell won't be ask good as the birds I keep for my own breeding but they are good. But if the folks I sell them breed them up and beat me then they are doing the breed more of a service than I am and I am proud of them for beating me. They deserved it and I need to do better. This hasn't happened yet since I haven't been long in the game but I hope to someday go up against someone I sold birds to.

I kind of like 1 better too but 2 isn't bad either.
Not sure what you mean by the "spotting gene" and it being dominate.
That's not how the Erminette pattern works. Its not a spotting gene that gives the pattern.
But you are correct that others can use those roosters to breed the same thing as you're doing. It competition or flooding the market is a concern eat all your extras.

Number 1 has a better body type for Ameraucana but number 2 has a good pea comb.

America Erminette is a genetically unique America breed, with co-dominant black and white. You photo is of Americauna, with ermine color --- entirely different.
