Ok. So we've done tons of reading here and in books that we've purchased. We were all ready to go for our very first chick purchase ever. We went to TSC because they said they had "Reds" when we got there the bins are labeled "Assorted Pullets" and "Assorted Reds". What's the difference? I know what a pullet is. Why label them like that? I hope I didn't just purchase a rooster.
I did read the thread about the other experiences at TSC, when I asked a question, they just shrugged and looked at me like I was ignorant.

Sounds weird to me. I'd want an explanation, too. If they can't give you one, buy your chicks elsewhere.

The employees at our local TSC are also very ignorant about chicks. Last year, I found several white chicks in the leghorn bin that were definately not leghorns. They had beards, muffs and green legs.

The girl that received the shipment of chicks, picked all the white chicks out of the EE's because she thought they had gotten mixed up in shipping ! I got some very nice EE pullets at the leghorn price !

My guess is that "Assorted Reds" was probably Straight Run if they were not marked as pullets. We don't have a TSC around here. Sounds like I am not missing much. We have lots of other feed stores around here.

assorted pullets are all girls of different breeds, assorted red will be red feathered chickens that can be male or female

Straight run is not sexed. You would think the odds are 50-50 then. But my experience has been far more roos than girls.

stright run boy or girls, out of a hatchery if you order stright run its cheeper than pullets (girls) but you generally get 70% roosters and 30% pullets
