my ducks have several kiddy pools to play in. However, I have a small river behind my house that eventually leads into a massive lake. They found the river and have been swimming in it for a couple of weeks, but always some back to the house before it gets dark.
Yesterday they didn't come back and we found them swimming further away from the house and they won't come back.
Now what do we do? we can't stand in the river all day, they just swim further away, and there is one duck that is missing. I'm concerned that there are lots of predators where they are, and they stayed out all night in the frigid weather.

sorry for the circumstances. Most likely they are on high alert because of a probable predator attack. Do not go after them. Try calling them in with feed and locking them in their pen until things calm down.
