essential oils for chickens?

Does anyone use essential oils for treating ailments? Is it safe? Say your hen has a fungal infection could you use tea tree oil on it? I use them on my family and thought "I wonder if they can be used on chickens? " I've used them on goats and dogs before

A good number of EO are used for 4-legged friends, but not much info on use on feathered friends. Here's a general discussion:

I've used both Lavender and Frankincense diluted in olive oil with good results.

There's discussion here on BYC about uses of Thyme not the EO tho for treatment against mites.

I've used oregano oil to treat an abscess and sour crop. Both times I used it I diluted it with coconut oil. With the abscess (I applied it topically) it was closed and healing by the next morning. With sour crop I made her eat it and by the next day there was no more smell at all. I also used frankincence on a hen with a tumor that came back and in 2 days it was totally gone. I swear by them because I use them on myself as well and have always had wonderful results

Wow! Really encouraging! Can't speak enough good things about coconut oil and love how you've used it with great results.

All of your applications sound encouraging for others to try out the versatility of EO for feather and fur friends.

Of course the caveat here is to ALWAYS use a few drops of Essential Oils DILUTED in an appropriate amount of another OIL such as Coconut or Olive oil.
