Establishing plants in pond with ducks

Good morning.
Has anyone successfully established aquatic plants (arrowhead, arum, etc) in a pond with ducks? If so, how did you protect them from being gobbled up? I am trying to combat filamentous algae by growing native water plants to utilize the nitrogen and phosphorus. However, my ducks are eating machines and will eat them before they get established. I was thinking about designing a tuber cage of sorts or trying to fence off the area for a couple of seasons until they are safe and can withstand the beasts.
Any success with fencing off a portion of a farm/gamefish pond to keep the ducks out?

How big is your pond? I think you'd need a sizeable pond to successfully keep plants in it.

1/3 acre gamefish pond. I planted them near the shore in one corner and put a snow fence, partially submerged, around the area. So far, they haven't tried to breach it.
