Right click on the pics and hit "show picture"
Most of the time it has to do with a messed up setting on my web provider and with IE, that should solve the problem.

Emerald is still sitting but she was never really confronted by Domineak this time, since Domineak didnt end up laying today, tomarrow should be the final test for this round.

I don't think Domineak is as flexable as Mrs.Nezbit on the box thing, based on the fact that she removes eggs from the lower box; kinda like" hey those don't belong there"

Will Emerald hold her ground?
Will Domineak lay an egg on the ground.
"And...what about Naomi?"

"For the answer to these and other questions"
Tune in tomarrow for
"Love Of Box"

Todays events, Not exactly riveting, but here it is:

Emerald sat in the box most of the morning and then left toward the afternoon on her own.
There was no confrontation between her and any of the others over the box.
She spent several hours out of the box, not returning until late in the afternoon.
During the time she was absent, Domineak and Mrs.Nezbit managed to lay their eggs in the upper box.

She is back in the box now, but i'm thinking that if she did have any viable eggs, they would'nt survive being left for so long.

That's it for now.

hmmm..this is all very interesting and got me thinking.

Of all the rescues that have been incorporated into my flock....It seems that they were not fully accepted into the gang until they started laying eggs regulary....and I'm sure it had to do with the roo accepting them and probably keeping the peace at that point.

What I mean by fully accepted....they would all share the coop at night...but during the day it was like having 2 flocks...the original gang and the new rescues.

I still believe that having extra space helps the whole situation...however I know that's not always possible.

Thanks for that info sandra, that leads me to a couple questions:
1) When exactly do Wyandottes mature (and lay eggs)
2) When exactly do EE's mature(and lay eggs)

I knew that they didnt mature as fast as my other chickens, but I kinda expected them to start showing some signs by now.

3) Is there a way to get a 30 week old hen, that isnt laying, to reconsider her position on the subject. specifically Hazel the Dominique.

And an Update:

Emerald has now been in the nest box for 24 hours strait.
As far as I know, she has not left the box since yesterday at around this time.
No showdown today between her and Domineak, and Nez layed in the lower box again.

My EE was a little late to start, mid - late september, got her in mid - late april. Oops. Nevermind, that's exactly 5 months, I guess she was normal? I don't know about wyandottes though. On the Henderson's Chicken Breed Chart, wyandottes are supposed to be moderately early maturing, as are their "Ameraucana". Good luck!

A question - Do you want Emerald to be broody or do you want to break it? Here in oregon all you have to do is lock them outside the coop when it's raining, that's what ruined my broody.

We keep debateing that.
Mostly what we want is consistancy, either broody or not broody.
If she's not broody, then the problem takes care of itself, if she is broody then we will probably get her a fertile egg.

In the end it doesn't matter all that much but we don't want to waste her broody time, if she wants to be a momma, but we also don't want to get her an egg just to have it die from inconsistant sitting.

Tomarrow she will most likely have to face off with Domineak, if she manages to confront her and win, then her chances of being a succeful sitter is much better.

Esther and Winnie are now 21 weeks old and will be 22 weeks on sunday and their combs still havn't changed much.
My four others are "Early matureing" and their combs changed by 17 weeks old; taking them another few weeks before they started laying.

It sounds like your EE was laying around 20 weeks?

Fussy didnt start to lay until 22 1/2 weeks old. I marked it on the calendar.

You also have to remember if they are stressed, they wont lay, and it definitely sounds like at least Esther is stressed.
