My Rhode Island is scheduled to start laying soon and I was wondering if that date is accurate. Here are some pictures of her from this morning:

She looks close to laying.

I really need to explain to mine that there is a schedule. Lazy girls that they are.

Mine ended up laying on their own terms. The Barred Plymouth Rocks laid first, at about 5 months give or take a week. My Buff Orpingtons followed, then my Partidge Rocks and my last but not leasters are the Golden Laced Wyandottes. They were a good 2-3 weeks behind and are still laying smaller eggs but they are increasing in size. Once you start hearing the "laying song" which to us means they run around crazy bwaking and then out pops an egg. Good luck and you should be soon !

Do you think she is already laying and hiding her eggs? Also, since it is winter here is there anything I should do to make sure she will actually lay?

ETEA Spring. Unless you are supplementing with artificial light which might help.. I never count on them in Nov & Dec unless they are already pullets laying by Sept.

Hi I have 1 New Hampshire that has just started laying at 24 weeks, my rhode island red cross is 23 weeks and I dont think she is close to laying yet, and my 24 week old Australorp will start laying very soon I hope. It seems to take forever for you to get your first egg, but it really is very exciting. I have attached a pic of my first eggs from my New Hampshire.
