Ethical question

Sorta new to this part of backyard chickens. I ended up with a rooster, first one ever. But I can't keep him. Now what? I've put out feelers, posted local, nothing. I get what chickens are for, but I'm not going to be making Sunday dinner anytime soon. I don't mind others having dinner, just not for me. So what do I do with my roo when no one wants him?

Advertise a free rooster on Craigslist. If you have any farm swaps in your area you could take him and give him away. Where do you live?

Where you are located, how old he is, and maybe breed might help with our thoughts.

Cmom came up with a couple of good possibilities. You might have an active thread for your area, state, or country in the "Where am I? Where are you!" section of this forum where you could chat with your neighbors. Do you have a zoo or something similar that could use some free food for their animals? Have you chatted with the people at your feed store, they may have an idea.

I'm near Indianapolis. He is about 9-10 week austrolorp. Farm stores are no help, called all major ones in area and the 4 smaller private owed ones around. My feed guy just chuckled at me. Said me and a dozen other people he knew in same situation. I like the old guy, but man is he blunt! I'll contact local 4H this afternoon.

He's a little young to eat and not all that exotic. I searched for an active Indiana thread but did not find one so that's out.

You can start a new thread in the "Animals in Need for Free Re-Homing" section with Indianapolis and cockerel in the title. You might get lucky.

My only other suggestion is Craigslist.

I saw this, but the nearest one is 2 1/2 hrs with no guarantee that he will be gone.

Hate Craigslist, you never know who those people are but it looks like it may be my only solution.

Better blunt and honest, than falsely solicitous and misleading....and he's right.

Hate Craigslist, you never know who those people are but it looks like it may be my only solution.

Me too...but...it may be your best option.
I've had better luck with a local poultry groups on facebook,
a little better than CL....biggest issue with both is people showing interest then standing you up.

I emailed one of the Farm to Table restaurants near me, she actually forwarded my message to her farmers. Another viable option for others who are in my situation. Now I wait..
