Ethical question

Roosters are the reason I do not hatch eggs or get chicks. I get my birds at 6-8 weeks from the local breeder. Lots of free roosters on Craigslist where I live.

I emailed one of the Farm to Table restaurants near me, she actually forwarded my message to her farmers. Another viable option for others who are in my situation. Now I wait..

I was able to find homes for two of my cockerels in the same week.

I made a nice sign, with a beautiful picture of a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. Then put "Free to Good Home" in large letters on the sign. I made some little cards with my e-mail address, only, and attached them to the flyer.

One of the cockerels went to our county agriculture inspector, who was inspecting our citrus trees. Then, the other went to some friends of one of my neighbors.

It's true a cockerel can end up as Sunday dinner. But, these folks were nice enough to e-mail some photos of the boys with their new flock of hens.

So, this is just another option.

God Bless:)

We have a buy local initiative it Kentucky, so I see a lot of restaurants/business that advertise Kentucky Proud!, & Farm to Table. They have pretty strict restrictions though, I know the farmers around here that participate & have chickens are NPIP so they won't just take any bird. Do you have any rural areas near you? Maybe try targeting that area?
