Ethics and DNA certificate needed for showing.

Just looks like your fair requires all Jr exibitors to take an ethics class. You'll probably want to contact them on the course you'll need to take. Not sure what the DNA part is about.

I agree with your assessment, it looks like you need to take a class.

I searched the fairgrounds site a little and found some contact information.

I would contact them and ask about the ethics class and if there is any way you can get that requirement met by tomorrow.
Also ask: When was the requirement instituded, where the class is available from, who sponcers the class, how you would sign up for the class, ...
They should also be able to tell you about the DNA requirement.

DNA Certificate? That is ludicrous. Must be a misprint. NPIP is required back east and AI in some states, but DNA? What do they want to know; if it's a chicken?

I suspect that whoever wrote up those rules has experience with cattle and doesn't understand the ramifications of that requirement with other animals- although I'm bemused at the emphasis on DNA when the larger problem with Junior Livestock sales has always been lying about the age of the animal- which is a problem across species, and secondarily treatment with hormones and antibiotics, although I'm informed that it's harder to get those than it was back in the bad old days. DNA is more of a solution for problems in breeding animal competitions, where animals shown as purebreds have been, in fact, F2 and F3 crosses with larger breeds.

I think the ethics instruction might be a good idea to counteract the experiential lessons of youth livestock competition: cheaters prosper, and money trumps hard work and virtue.

To think of it... I want to say some fairs have "livestock" include large animals like goats, cattle, pigs, while "poultry" to include chickens, pigeons, and waterfowl... perhaps that page really is geared more toward the big animals which DNA testing is for.
