The other day I said something to my granddaughter in pig latin. She didn't understand me. When I was a kid, all kids could speak and understand pig latin. It was a lot of fun. Parents struggling to learn English could never catch on. Teachers hated it. I guess it is a lost art.

Pig latin bears no resemblance to real Latin. When I first went to High School, I ended up in a real Latin class. The teacher was a former Mexican priest with an anger management problem. He terrified the class. He also was a firm believer in rote memory. I can still conjugate the verbs and decline the nouns, but I have no idea what it all means.

But the pig latin is still with me.
