Great hatch. I hope you get a few more too. If it's an Orpington, they tend to feather out very slow, so you should know in a day or two when all the EOs have wings and the Orp looks the same. You might be able to feather sex it at that point too.

for my curled toes I tried to fix it with scotch tape, but it didn't work or i didn't persist long enough. Might be good to leave it curled, if you think they can get along. My girl gets along just fine with it. it's an easy marker. I'm thinking i might not breed mine now that several others have had curled toes. I though mine happened because of a long hatch, but now i'm wondering if it's genetic.
I've hatched 32 chicks (so far) in the past year, 15 this hatch. The only toe/leg problems I have ever had are two EOs from this hatch. When I look at your curled toes and the frequency among the other EO keepers, I am thinking it's genetic. I'm not going to breed those with toe/leg issues - in fact, I probably won't keep them with my limited space - and then I think I'll try an outcross I've been considering. We'll see how that goes/went in about three years!

But, these are small peanuts. We are lucky to have them in North America and we can work this kind of stuff out.

Great advice about the Orpington. I'm glad to have some kind of plan - right now I have no idea!

@ChestnutRidgeSpreadSheetWizardWonderBlogger: you can totally fix it! I used the bandaid shoe and 99% of the time it works. Persistence is key and I like to take the shoe off every couple days to let the foot/feet breathe and assess their progress. I'm sure you know it can be a nutch deficiency as well, so give those kids some vits & electrolytes and I bet you'll have straight toes in no time at all. Yay for chickies.

I am aware of the nutritional issue.

These poor babies have been force-fed water with vitamins and electrolytes - including B and zinc - every hour since they hatched. They don't appreciate the attention. "Sneakers" of crooked-toes fame is doing much better and running around the brooder in her Keds. My little one with spraddle-ish leg issues.... I'm not sure. We'll see how he looks tomorrow morning after a night in his cup.

I posted this on the EO board, but I'll put it up here, too.
One of these is an Orpington, but which? Worst case scenario, I'll find out in a few days because naturespace advised that Orpingtons feather more slowly.
I am sure that Cup is an EO and am pretty sure that I am sure on Sneakers as well.
