Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

As of next Monday I will be an official Marraduna Basque owner! I've been creeping the thread in preparation of bringing home my 3 babies (7-weeks old - two pullets, one roo.. from ronott1's Skyline hatchings). I thought I'd share the following info with you all about sending in your chickens for Necropsy to UC Davis. I sent my dead chick in last week for a Necropsy. I used the Postal Service's Express Overnight mail. The package was received on Friday AM so I thought all was fine. Today I came to find out that any USPS mail gets sent to the main UC Davis building and the lab only picks up those animal packages every Tuesday and Thursday. They do not refrigerate anything at the main building so your chicken(s) will just sit there. If you send in your animals for Necropsy you can use their FedEx account info. and get up to 70% off! UC Davis will bill you for the shipment costs after (or when) you get your final report. Also, FedEx and UPS deliver directly to the lab Monday-Friday. Hope you never have to send your chickens in for a Necropsy but if you do at least it'll be a smoother (and cheaper) process!

Chics, you can find the standard that we are working towards here. I wrote a post about their history on my blog, if you are interested.

Hey where'd everybody go? I miss hearing about everyone's beautiful chickens!

I picked up my 2 pullets and roo on Monday! I am now the proud owner of Marraduna Basques!!! Here are some pics of them since they've been home:

No idea why my dog Gia was interested in the dried worms my boyfriend was feeding them!

Our roo:

Our reclaimed wood coop! The chickens love it!:

Hope to see you guys back soon!
