Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

My hens got testy around point of lay, but then they settled down a couple of weeks after the eggs started coming.

I'll be breeding for friendlies too, but I would never trust a rooster around a young child.

Really?? I've seen pictures of little kids with their chickens and never even thought it was an issue. Do you think it's still a bad idea to have the rooster around the 3 year old if I'm with them?

Roosters are like bulls, boars, stallions, or any other male animals. They are always at least a little unpredictable. While you may not think of a chicken as being very dangerous, they can do a lot of damage with their spurs. Sometimes animals percieve children as threatening, as they move unpredictably, make a lot of noise, and don't respect the warning signs that the animals give. A young child should be CLOSELY supervised around any animals (including dogs).

Have fun

I now have about 60 Marraduna Basque and would like to find others in the States with (Euskal Oiloa) Basque. This breed has become one of my favorite breeds. They are bar none my best foragers out of every breed that I have and I have alot of breeds! I call them my little terminators because nothing stands a chance in their path. They are some of the friendliest birds Ive ever owned. Extremely smart birds! The Basque have a very distinctive personality. Very active happy birds. If anyone else has them send me an email or reply.

Where are the Skyline Poultry Basqu Hens from?

Canada? Greenfire Farms? Pais Basco, Espana (Basque Country, Spain)? Other?

Thanks! Greenfire Farms say on their information page that they imported their stock.

I guess they imported from Canada????

I assumed they imported from Spain since they imported a half dozen rare breeds from Europe every year. I guess things arn't always as they appear.
