X 2!

Methinks the very folks these birds are most suited for are not very likely to pay 19 simoleons for an unsexed chick

It just goes against the grain.

And it goes to show what those folks are most interested in despite all that flowery talk about saving breeds.
It's green, it folds and it don't cluck.

Leave it to you MD for putting it so colorfully, you gave me my laugh for the day.

You hit the nail on the head!!!

I too have been thinking about Greenfire and the not much interest post. I think Skyline did them in. There is a lot of interest here in Northern CA. The heat was brutal here this summer and the EO Basque did very well in it.
I have to agree...I love my two EO's and can't wait for them to lay..tho one now has a leg that it holds up..I hope it heals..eating and drinking ok
Prices drop on Greenfire as each breed becomes more popular. The price of Cream Legbars has already come down. They will probably stop carrying them next year when My Pet Chicken starts selling them. I wonder what the price will be from them.
I just was thinking another line would be good to add to the two I have..I just couldn't do it! Was way toooooo much $
I like buckabucka's Pressure Cooker version of the Basque Chicken recipe. I cooked a 7 month old Delaware using the recipe and a pressure cooker. It was great!

looking for that recipe!

Wait MD...are you saying that "we" are a niche group......a clique.......a flock of a different color( or 5)...a bunch of henhouse door huggers.....a bunch of proeggers marching with our 'Fresh Eggs' signs just to be able to buy something at a decent price.........well...I hope all of the above is true. I sure am. It kinda irks me that everything.....organic.....or rare........or good for the environment.....has to be more expensive. I too am glad that James was...and still is reasonable on his prices. We probably all just misunderstood what the Green...in the Green Movement meant!!!! $$$$$$ ..................OK.....I'm climbing down off my soapbox now

Quote: Ok, Here you go:

Use a cut up chicken instead of thighs. For the Pressure cooker version, set up the cooker like the braised method. I pressure cooked it for 12 min, used water to bring down the pressure and then added the stuff that goes on top and pressure cooked for another 10 min. chicken that is not as old as that Delaware would have the time lowered a bit for each step. If you want color on the chicken, you could brown them first. Not necessary though.

CR closed her genetics mini series today with a topic that would be prudent to comprehend and heed, for those of us intent on preserving the breed.

Heather, thank you for putting forth a concise set of essays on genetics. You have a real knack for pulling together what is vital and relevant!

Great egg layers and foragers and have been far the best food conserves I have had, I had standard Wyandottes for a few years and boy they just about put me in the poor house with feed bills. I sell hatching eggs for minimal money as am just so happy to share and spread the word about this wonderful breed, so Kudo's to James as I know he sells them very reasonable as well

Fantastic! That is such an important difference.

SSSHHHHHHHH! We don't want James to know that his prices are reasonable. He may think he needs to raise them. :D

I think someone might have laid a Basque egg today! There were TWO brown eggs this afternoon. Although I suppose it is possible that I have two olive eggers that lay a brown egg. Are the Basque eggs always shiny? This one has just a hint of shine, not much. I suppose I won't find out until this weekend when I am around to investigate.
