.....on a What Kind of Bag.....!!!???

That must be a girl thing. (I bet you other Guys didn't know either...) Meg, congrats on you egg and for seeing something was wrong with your babies and nipping it in the bud. Theres lots of folks that call themselves chicken people that barely notice if they are dead or alive...mine think something is wrong if I don't turn a 5 gallon bucket upside down and sit and watch them for a little while...maybe that's what a Birds Eye View means-Eye to Eye with your Chickens......anyway. that's Great that you caught it. Hows your guys broken leg??

just had to convey a funny story: i've got two 5-week-old EO basque chicks, one of whom, named Baby (smallest and LOUDest of my chicks), is suspected of being a boy -- although his comb hasn't grown any more since this photo, taken last thursday:

but he IS quite pale in color with very small just-growing grey-and-white tail feathers -- so, likely a boy. but today i spotted him TOTALLY being Nana to my two younger (3- and 4-week old) chicks -- while the other five-week-olds were out exploring the coops's run (they're living in an enclosure within the run) while the Big Girls were out free-ranging, there was Baby inside their sleeping box/nest, patiently letting the younger ones snuggle under his breast & pick at his feathers.

i just take this as more testament to how good-tempered EOs are.

Over in the California-Northern thread we have been working on checking for Cocci with the little chicks. We often read the descriptions, but do not really know what to look for. I had described what they look like with cocci, "Puffed up". The person did not know what that meant and a day later posted a picture of the chicken and I posted back for them to look at the chick--that is one puffed up chick.(not Megan's chick).

We have saved a lot if the little guys this summer that way. Most of us have our bag of Corid and we are also working having our vet kits to treat the common emergencies.

We are being good Boy Scouts I guess.

Thats awesome! They are very smart birds, something I've noticed since day one with them.

Ron........Cool...I think that's one of the great things about this Forum. I am not against Vets...my stepdaughter works at a Vet Clinic...but most of them don't deal with birds very often. Quite frequently, they just don't know because they haven't had much experience with Poultry. That is a really good thing to share and help each other on

It sometime seems like people are embarrassed to talk about their sick chickens. Over here There is a State program that provides free Necropsy for small flocks(less than 1000). When one of our bids dies, we send it in and then share the results to help all of us. It is a great learning tool. Guesses about what happened are fun but the test really provides a lot of information about your flock too like presence of e coli or salmonella. The last death was caused by Aspergillus(black mold).

Bye,

Thank you guys! I was so excited to let my BYC friends know!

It's a Louis Vuitton bag. I got it for my 7 year anniversary!

The vet tech school I go to requires that I choose my own vet to work with. I'm searching for a livestock/farm animal veterinarian so that I can learn more about the type of animals I'm interested in treating.. Including chickens!

Johnny, my boyfriend, is doing great. He got all of his staples out of his leg yesterday and started water physical therapy today. He's so excited to be able to walk in the pool! Thank you guys for your support!
