Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Well, regardless of the origin of this problem, will have to cull this chick. I just hate to do it. I am going to double check my temp to see what my incubator is running. I think it is right on, but maybe not. I don't want to be the cause of this happening again.

I do have four other basques. They are between 3 and 4 weeks old and getting big. The biggest is 10 ounces! We weighed them tonight, just for fun.

Yes, it is sad to have to cull them.

Humidity can cause hatching problems too. Did they hatch on time? If so, the temps were ok.

Basque chicks are stout and grow very fast.

We don't seem to have a lot of conversation on this thread lately. What. Has been going on with everyone? Molting? Eggs? Cockerels coming into maturity?
Photos?
Hatchings?
We need to get this thread going again.
Hey Skyline, you still around? We have some nice looking cocks and hens from your eggs.

Hens are just starting to lay, molt is done, birds with white on them came back with more white and paler, Cockerels taste really good, pullets hatched from pullet eggs have been laying over a month now, putting together this year's breeding pen based on last year's results. 50 mutts in the sportsman just for fun.

Sun is shining this morning after 4 days 3" of rain capped w 2' of snow. EOs don't care - they're out striding around in it!

i've not hatched anything yet, but plan on it! I didn't even know I had this breed till i posted on the mixed breeds thread. they told me to look here, we have always thought that rosaleigh and kellog-emmett was always one of our favorite peeps. rosaleigh is finally laying on a regular basis. man this weather is brutal but the whole flock is taking it in stride. emmett is one of the quietest roos i've had, i have another roo-jasper which is a little louder. but rosaleigh and emmett are so laid back and quiet-just love them!!

i am planning on hatching at least one egg from each of my breeds.they are all in together so i bet i will get some interesting birds. my daughter and i plan on getting a breeding pen of silkiies and polish going by spring. but we might even start a breeding pen of this breed later on. i'm starting to run out of yard

. but all in all we've had a lot of fun learning about our birds, and it has been a wonderful learning experience for my daughter. what she learns is priceless in my mind! this is awsome!!
