They are so cute. Great pictures. Yours look at the camera too! A sure sign of a tame chickens!

We can sometimes tell by the combs after a week or so. They just look like yellow chicks some with more intense almost reddish colour on the head. The roos get the cute bubble gum coloured sail starting! We have black penedesencas and they are even faster to tell. Once the body feathers start to come in you can see the males are more whiter with more grey and more spotty and barred. The females more of a gold or brown cuckoo. So by 2-3 weeks, generally the smaller browner ones are females as the males to get bigger fairly quickly.

I hope you get to share these skyline. I think people will love them. Funny. We've had about 40 breeds in the last 4 years and these are my top one as well. Lavender Duccles a close second as they are crazy friendly too just a tiny egg in comparison to the Euskal Oiloa. I wrote a couple of articles one of my friendliest breeds and top heritage breeds 10 and why. Comparing the other breeds to these I guess.

I could never be sure when the "if you had to have only one breed what would it be" threads come up, but as we are downsizing for a move I know those two breeds would be the last I would ever let go!

I will be adding pics of a broody pullet and chicks to that squidoo article. Apparently one of the guys that got eggs from me in 2010 had 2 Euskal Oiloas hatch and raise chicks now! We've never had one go broody in 3 years!

Only an hour but going from 100 acres to 1! Farming, working and commuting is too much for hubby. I'll be keeping about 30 chickens to start. The hopefully when we get set up will get more again. Next place will be interim for a couple of years til we build on about 5-10 acres. Now we know it`s chickens we love and want to breed, we don't need a huge 100 cattle barn. It is really great to hear about the Euskal oiloa from people. I thought it was fluke ours were friendly but people always say the same. Friendliest birds they`ve ever had!
