Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Pics
FYI - If anyone has HDNet on cable, there is an episode of "Rick Steve's Europe" on the Basque Country on at 10 pm EST tonight (2/29). I just saw an ad and am setting up to record.

. There weren't even any chicken dishes shown, so here is a Basque chicken Recipe:

Basque Chicken

Ingredients
2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
6 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
3 to 4 pounds chicken breasts, with bone and skin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon Spanish smoked paprika
3 to 4 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped
1 (12-ounce) jar roasted red peppers, sliced or 2 roasted red peppers
1 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 425F.
2. Spread onions and garlic evenly in the bottom of a large shallow roasting pan. Cut each chicken breast in half. Sprinkle chicken pieces on both sides with salt and pepper. Place chicken, skin side up, in pan. Drizzle with olive oil; sprinkle with paprika. Bake 20 minutes.
3. Add tomatoes, red peppers and broth. Continue baking 35 to 40 minutes, basting chicken occasionally, until chicken juices run clear. Serves 8.

This is so great to hear. I'll be getting 24 from James next week !!!!!
So far 9 of my 15 EOs from Skyline have hatched - gorgeous healthy, strong chicks. Some more pips this morning...hoping for several more healthy babies!

I would highly recommend Skyline for their EO eggs - all 15 of mine made it to lockdown, which is unheard of with shipped eggs. And these little guys look very strong and healthy. I would also recommend Cheryl at Omelet Ranch - her birds are GORGEOUS. (And all eggs I have received from her have had 100% fertility)

Stay tuned for the "peep show" - pics of my EOs coming (provided I can figure out how to upload...oh that)

I too was hoping to see some Basque birds on that show but it was still very interesting. The country looks so amazing. Thanks for the recipe :)

That is VERY inexpensive!! We intend to breed them but our pricing will be higher
Yeah...exactly it seems like that's a mantra that some people live by isn't it ? I just don't get it, if you truly love a breed and want to 'share' why you would brag/boast that your pricing would be higher ? it's not always how much money you can gouge people for..or is it ? This is apparently an exciting and interesting new breed so why wouldn't everyone get to enjoy it without paying a fortune for the chance and after all Greenfire is selling chicks for $19, not to bad Ed.

I know what you mean. I sell chicks at $8.00 a piece.
