Exciting Chestnutridge! That's great that you have a broody to help you out with your hatch. I hatched out some orpingtons with hopes of getting a broody for future hatches.
I hope you hatch all females cause I'll have a few extra roos for you to choose from. Hahaha!

I hope so too! But I'm very good at hatching roos, I'm afraid!
I've been looking for some sort of bands as well. Are these elastic? How easy/difficult are they to get on?

I got mine on eBay. Someone from the EO forum told me about them.

I got size 5 and 6. 4 would have been a better size for the new born but I think size 5 is good now. Had one fall off a tiny chick. It was a welsummer not an EO.
I'm only using two bands for my EOs. One has feathers on its legs, one without a band and two with bands. Other owners use zip ties. You need to be careful not to make it too tight or too loose and watch for them to out grow often.  If they are too loose they can get caught on their "elbows". Chicken elbows, of course. The chicks grow fast! I figured when they out grow size 6 I'll start to using zip ties.

Thanks for the info, naturespace! I just ordered some; I think it will help me tremendously in keeping track of all the little ones as they grow and change!

My EO eggs arrived today!

They were, of course, in impeccable condition. I'll candle a bit later tonight. I'll probably set them tomorrow morning while they are as fresh as possible but leave the turner off to let the aircells settle a bit. It would help my swap eggs, too - two of those were broken. I may never understand the inner workings of the USPS, but I am thankful that I am able to order and receive such awesome eggs to grow my flock!

I'm picking up 10 Basque juveniles tomarrow. Getting them all for $80.00 Have no idea how many are males/females. We shall see tomarrow. Will try and post pictures when I get them settled in. By the by - Best of luck on the eggs! Also, loving all the gorgeous pictures! I hope to be adding to them very soon! : )
