Anyone willing to play guess the gender?

I have four chicks (5 weeks old) that I'm not certain of gender. Most of the EO are pretty clearly marked as pullets with a pretty golden color and the cockerels with nice barring developing - but these four?

First I think is a pullet based on the comb size.

I suspect the second might also be a pullet (the chick on the left is the same color the rest of the "pullets" are showing - the chick on the right is the questionable one)

Pullet or cockerel?

I think this one might be a cockerel, he is also the biggest chick in the hatch.

And two chicks side by side - pullet on left and cockerel (same as above) on the right?

Methinks pic 4 is a pullet, and both chicks in last pick roos. Was it you that got their birds from Greenfire? These don't look like Skyline stock...
I'll have to check their legbands and get back to you. The first one w blue band is James.

I am facinated by this beautiful breed! I am thinking about firing up the incubator around the end of April. Would anyone (not too far from Florida) have eggs available then? Hopefully it won't be too hot yet to ship eggs, but it's hard to tell.
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous pictures of them!
Hi chicks in the Sun!

Welcome to this thread.

I too am fascinated by these chickens. My eggs were shipped by James from Skyline Farms and they were set into the incubator on Saturday March 17th, 2012 at noon. Hatch day is the day before Easter. From reading posts on the Easter Hatchalong thread it seems like getting shipped eggs from places farther away is often better. Those eggs go from the post office to a Fedex plane. Then they go from the airport to the distribution center and then to your local post office. There is less handling and time on bumpy roads. If the eggs are shipped from a location closer that does not require air travel, they travel more miles and go through more sorting centers. Mine From James were perfect! He packs them so that they stay in the correct upright position as much as possible. These eggs had the best air cells yet for eggs shipped to me.

I would get them from James if I were you.

Bye,

Ron

Good point! I hadn't thought about that. I once got eggs from Utah, and not a single one hatched, so I guess I was being careful. I'm thinking that I might wait till next Spring, as I did just add two Buckeys and and Orloff to my flock. I'll think on it and decide by next week when I get back from vaccation.

Our chicks from Skyline are developing nicely and it looks like we have 7 cockerels and 9 pullets. So obviously some cockerels will have to go. We will probably keep two, maybe three. If anyone is interested in getting the others, let us know. Otherwise, my father-in-law will be thrilled to have some "eating chickens".

I have 11 EO that I believe are 7 week or so from someone local and the eggs came from an unknown source. After taking a few trips to her place, i am thinking greenfire. Ican pretty much tell the pullets from cockerals at this point, but i have a few pullets that are more mille de fleur looking. I would post pics, but my laptop crashed and i am having to do everything from my phone. I am wondering if this patterning is common or if she accidentially gave me something else. They are pretty, just weird.-

I've seen that pattern and I believe James might be working on a mille de fleur version, but i doubt he is selling any birds or eggs. I'm planning on keeping any pullets regardless of the feather pattern. But if I were planning on breeding, to preserve the SOP, they would be in the cull group.
