Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Hello I am new here , I always check on this thread because I am interested in the breed and I hope you don't mind my comments.
I am trying to learn here.
I will appreciated if some body can direct me to the spanish standard, so far what I get when I google is minimal.Or somebody in spain that breeds this so I can talk to them and get more info, what ever I can get I will try to translated in English as much as I can. (you will see by now my english is not the best.
According to what I read the marraduna should be more the colour tone of the birds from Green Fire Farms,(Gorrida) but the markings of the Skyline line.
The birds I have are from skyline and are build nice and the patters in good but the colour is too light (the ones I have).
I have 11 eggs in the bator that are developing suppose to be GFF and Skyline lines mixed with I am hoping will give me a nie middle colour from where to start.

Ron Your animals look amazing (that is suppose to be the colour in Spain) the boy has a bit of white in the tail according to what I read that still a no no , but I guess you can wait for the molt and if still the same you only have to work on eliminating that since the rest is already there.

Like I said I am learning as well.Just give you my opinion on what I read.

He is amazing.

We an allow for white and grey barring in the tail for the American Standard.

I will send you a PM with a couple of links that will help you with finding more.

Am I missing something? I don't see white sickles on Ron's boy.
I do not see them and I think white with black barring is correct.

The flock belongs to a friend of mine. I did hatch them last year and hope to get some hatching eggs from them this year.

The biggest problem I see is white legs on one of the pullets. That is easy to fix though....

I thought tails were supposed to be barred, other posting have shown barred tips on the sickles but barring faded or missing at the base of the feather. I can hardly wait to see what's in the eggs.

I am not interested in arguing standards at this point but I would like to see some good conformation/type pics labeled with their age. I have pullets here who are not the color that Ron posted. I have one who is more mille fleur and a chick that is the same. I happen to prefer it. I also have one cock who is much darker, nearly black in his barring, than the cockerel who looks a lot more like Ron's. I figure while they are here I can learn about them. Are they meant to be lean or will they fill out like 'heritage' birds?

I like our post!

To be honest I have not looked into the Standards too much. I am more interested in getting rid of the inbreeding problems--low hatch rates and curled toe issues and etc.

They are supposed to be big and meaty for the Cockerels. They are Dual purpose egg layers so the pullets are not supposed to be huge. The ones I hatched from Skyline were fine meat birds and got big fairly fast.

I will know more about the cockerels this summer. On Sunday I will be setting the first ten days worth of eggs.

Ok sorry for the comment, like I say I am new and I see things that others don't see as fault, maybe I am too perfectionist.Sorry for that.I will love to have a stock like yours but I will still work on them to get them to the spanish standard. The sickle is not white is barred the way it should be the whole tail is fine but the white in the sickle is too much according to the spanish forums black will fade as well as the brown and the white will came stronger so I am just wondering how much white really will be allow, that is what I say to wait for mollting and see what happens rigth now looks perfect but have to see what happens later.
This are not my pics are from the forum I go in Spain

The rooster on the second pic is 8 months and for colour will be the options but there is problems with the crest, and according to them the chest as well, they should not be too pronunce this is a hereditary problem.he one on the first is 9 months he is more white all over but will be the option with darker hens.
So looks like they will try to avoid white as much as possible.
From now on I will just keep looking and learning from USA and Spain
