Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

This is my little basque over swedish flower hen. I'm pretty sure he is a he. His comb just keeps getting bigger. I had kind of hoped he would have a crest like his mother, but I don't think he does. This was taken last week. He's just gotten more beautiful since this was taken.
Your may be correct on the Gender, but there are no signs of wattles yet.

How old is the chick?

That is a nice looking one too!

Yes, I am very excited to have this one and the ones in the incubator. I am putting them into lockdown tonight.

There is a lot of orange in the tail so I am leaning towards pullet. I want a nice Cockerel for next years Breeding project so either gender is great for me.

Nice looking chick Ron, I'm hoping it''s a she. Much easier to fine an extra boy than the other way around. But then again, you do seem to be able to pull off more girls than boys in your hatches.

Good luck with your upcoming hatch!

....How are the Oregon Seven doing? What sexes did you end up with?? If they are eating that jelly and beets.............they HAVE to be doing GREAT!!!

The comb is getting red now. I'll take a picture today so that you can see. It's about 2 weeks old in this pic. I really like the temperament of it. So far. :) I haven't had much luck with roosters that were nice.

Mine have been the nicest roosters so far. I had 5 last year and one of them is in a breeding program now. The Egg Farmer is amazed. Chema is the nicest and biggest Rooster he has worked with yet.

They are doing great Mike, but no beets or jellies for them. Bolted lettuce, watermelon and cucumbers are the goodies around here now.

We have 3 boys and 4 girls. One boys comb is flopping over already, the other looks nice but wants to pull the hairs on my arm. Since I don't have much hair when he gets one I know it. The girls are sweet as can be. Our favorites in personality are the two that started out white. If I can't figure out how to keep another rooster here, I have 5 now, they will have to go to a special home.

I move them in each night to make sure they are safe from the coons, foxes, etc. It is so nice to just lean in and pick them up and not have to chase them like the hatchery babies!

I'll try and get some updated pictures for you.

Thank you for the update!

It is great to hear that they are nice for the most part.

The one pulling hair isn't doing it to be mean, just doesn't think it should be there. I've been very lucky with roos. We had a D'anver that went for my face once while I was bent over doing chores. I also had a BLRW that tried to test me, I just pinned him to the floor and continued what I was doing with the other hand. He learned to give me my space, he really didn't like being pinned down.

I have to be able to trust them around young people since they do alot of 4-H outings.
