Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try to keep 2 roos, as long as they don't fight, probably #2 and 3, because I like their coloring. I'm pleased that roo 3 is catching up in growth. He hatched late, didn't move after hatching for 24 hours. I had to keep him separate at first, as he was so tiny, but now you can hardly tell.
Brownie, on the other hand, is really big! So glad I got 3 girls. Past experience has always been heavy on roosters. I had other shipped eggs, and only one Marans and one Blue Wheaten Ameraucana hatched out, and they appear to be girls too!
My darker round-shaped Basque girl is so different looking from the others, and will not let me near her, but she definitely came out of a Basque egg.

If you haven't seen these, go look at Kathy's "Barred Buff Rockshires" - as Haiku noticed as well, they look just like EO hens!

Those are not EO basque. I don't think they will breed true, being F2s in a project to make a new Heritage Delaware breed that will breed true as Delawares.

EO Basque are a breed from Spain. Please stick to the standards. Whatever the Basque Genetitist did to make these should not be messed up.
Wow! I can't wait to see what an EO roo over some GNH hens will produce.
That is really interesting.
Thanks CR!
Don't breed the EO basque to a GNH. You will just be getting new eggs from Skyline in a couple of years as they move away from the Spanish Standard.

When James first tried to get people interested in the EO Basque he was shown pictures like these with the comment "why bother with the Basque since we already have these." These guys are special. You can't get the behavior, intelligence and other behaviors and their robustness (like being able to hatch 11 out of 15 shipped eggs--this type of robustness has been repeated consistently too) out of crossing.

So many from here have moved to the new EO board. It would be nice to hear form Skyline on this.

Ron - if there's a new EO thread could you post the link? I've been following this thread getting ready to bring my three EO's home.

Hi Meg,

I have it book marked at work. I will get the address for you tomorrow.

Yours are doing very well!
