Euthanizing and disposal of injured bird

We have a 10-week-old turkey with an injured leg. He limped around for a while but now has been lying down in the same spot for several days with the injured leg splayed out to the side. I've kept food and water right at its head but feel that it's time to let it go. We don't want to eat this one in case it has an infection or something.

What is the best way to euthanize a bird that is not going to be consumed? I could follow our butchering process but wondered if there's a simpler way since it doesn't need to be bled out.

And disposal--can one carcass be placed in the middle of a compost pile? Or should I bury or burn it?

Thanks for any help. I've lost tiny chicks and poults but nothing this large before.

I wouldn't put it in the compost pile... it will attract flys and critters... I'd burn it.

I believe most folks use the hatchet to the neck method. Agree that I would either bury or burn the carcass.

Agreed - take him out the same as any other. Quick & painless.

I wouldn't compost. Bury, burn or out with the trash on trash day.

Thanks all. Euthanizing wasn't necessary...he died today (not sure what from). But I did bury him in a deep hole. RIP little turkey.
