Good morning, y'all! I'm falling dreadfully behind in everything...homework, BYC, and cleaning my room. But as I'm typing this I just realized I can read the words without my glasses, with the screen at about 100%, though it's really difficult. The screen is about 1.5 ft away from my face, so that's pretty good. Now you know I have bad eyesight! I can actually see fairly well (at least when it's light) and can even drive without my glasses, though the world isn't exactly clear, but I can't read well at all.
But I doubt you want to hear about my eyesight, so We'll move on. Winnie and Hilda were fighting, about what I'm not sure. They've clearly been fighting for awhile, though I did not notice it until now, because both are missing great quantities of feathers. That's what comes of them sharing a nest! And neither are inclined to be very motherly. I took the duckling away from them and put it just outside the pen, and though it peeped loudly no one came to rescue it. Henry did, but he got scared and ran away. So much for his inflated ego!
Matilda loves it the most, and it seemed to care for Winnie, so I let her have it along with Matilda and shut Hilda out with Henry. She did not seem to mind too much. I am pretty sure the five remaining eggs are dead...I think I am going to order a couple ducklings. I don't want the little quacker to be all alone - even if he does have Matilda and Winnie, they're not the greatest mothers. Jen is much better!
Minna hates Jenny now; she considers her to be insubordinate. Jen had found worms and was giving them to her babies, and she would not move out of Minna's way. So Minna attacked her and they beat each other up pretty good in the few seconds before I interrupted the fight.
Jenny also drives off Dolores, who she used to be friends with (Jen was her foster mother!) because Dolores is somewhat of a bossy hen and doesn't like the chicks. Viv gets along fine with Jen because although she is very confident, she isn't a bully. I think she will be the next queen hen when Prudence is gone.
I haven't yet named the duckling or the cat, who has stayed mostly in the bathroom away from Eva. Eva makes the most friendly advances, carefully coming up and wagging her little tail, and whining softly, but Kitty hisses at her. Eva did get within two feet of Kitty before she hissed, though, so we're making progress!
I believe that's everything. I can't remember if I told y'all that Jen now roosts with the chicks. She's also been keeping them out about an hour later than usual. She used to put them to bed at 6:30 sharp even though it didn't get dark till 8:30.
Like I said earlier, I've been procrastinating on everything, so i don't have that many nor the best quality of pictures.
Henry and Hilda taking a bath. I don't remember the big white spots on Henry's chin...
Guess who my new favorite camera subject is?
This stack of towels is one of her favorite spots.
The duckling with Matilda
Jenny with Honor and Liberty
Faith and Hope
Winston and his Hens - Lydwinne, Rose, and Prudence
Hilda's speculum - her feathers must not be very oily because when she goes for a swim she looks bedraggled within a few minutes
