Eventual move out west...but where to go?

Oooh, love this topic. All the docs I've seen in the last decade end up saying I've gotta move out of the southeast. Lung problems, etc. So on vacations I've been trying out various western locales. Desert is out, dust storms, desert cough, smog. 8 out of 10 emergency room doctors say Alaska (really hilarious ya'll). Seattle and around is too humid again. Coure de alene is almost perfect but 200 inches of snow...really? Northern Arizona is really nice. Above 4,000 ft elevation and in a small town, the air quality is good for me, but what to do for a job? Gah!

Any body from the Southeast move back up where there are REAL winters? Because I really want to know if /how long it takes to get used to the cold. Ain't no spring chicken here.

And a job???

So, I'm looking into ya'll 's suggestions! Next "vacation" is last of Sept/first October

Everyone had GREAT advice and it gave me a good starting point. I'm really liking TX - searched Clarksville and surrounding areas. Also researched the weather and seems ideal! Just sent a bunch of links to DBF so we'll see. We'd pack up and move tomorrow but we both have homes to sell and aging parents. Not sure how that's going to fly but it's the start of a plan!!!

SB - too many aches and pains in the winter which is why we want somewhere warm but not humid/wet like the SE. Out in the middle of nowhere so we can raise our animals and garden more than 4 months out of the year!!

You have to be careful about buying property in CO. There is quite an issue with water rights. Many "cheap" properties have sold off their water rights. There's many covenant areas and several counties limit the number of animals one may have (for example El Paso & Teller limits to 4 dogs), unless you research the zoning for the land parcel.
I love it here in CO, but you have to do your homework!!

PS. Edited to add-----My friend from Elyria just came for a visit and LOVES it here. Each time she comes she keeps saying she wants to move here. Sigh, I wish she would.

Thanks for the tips Carrie! I noticed several properties listed "deed restricted". Not sure what that means? And what exactly is 1.75 bathrooms? We consider 1 full bath to mean toilet, sink & tub/shower. 1/2 bath is toilet/sink only. Maybe 1.75 is toilet, sink and shower stall?
