Eventual move out west...but where to go?

The area around Colunbus, MT does not get as cold as where I am...I think it is zone 4 or 5

Sorry but I've been to Montana, Wyoming and Ohio.

Montana and Wyoming can have MUCH colder, harsh winters than Ohio. Think Ohio with bitter cold WINDS.
But they are beautiful in the summer.

We're zone 5 here :-( Maybe need to find a zone 6? Low in the 20's/30's are ok. Can't believe 20 acres for that price though!

Oh no - bitter cold winds won't do...on to checking out AZ :-)

not all of montan has harsh winter....in sidney, were i live they do...i am in zone 3, but around the billings area, winter is not that harsh. if there is snow, we are very prepared, so it is as difficult.

Colorado is the best state in the west. Beautiful scenery. Over 300 days of sun per year. Avg low in the winter is above freezing. Avg high in the summer is under 90. Dry climate so you don't get all those weird diseases and fungus that everyone is always talking about with their chicks.

Texas is always a good answer... I moved to San Antonio 20 years ago and then to Tool which is up by Dallas and the lowest Temp I have seen is 23 degrees. The lasnd prices can be pricey around the Cities but that is not what you are looking for anyway eh? There is lots of land that is affordable in Texas.

Hubby and I live between Colorado Springs, CO and Fountain. We really like this area. He is originally from upstate New York and I am from Northern Wisconsin. MUCH better climate than what we grew up with...LOL

I like AZ, but it is just too darn dry.

OMG I found 30-40 acres for under or around $100K in CO - AMAZING! You couldn't even get 1/2 acre for that price around here. Wifezilla, what zone are you there?

The areas I searched in AZ were very pricy :-(

On to check out TX!!!!

LOL! snow and cold of Ohio? I grew up there and I'd take that moderate cold any day over the north east. Yeesh.

Missouri is fairly moderate and cheap. But jobs are not plentiful. VA to SC is a nice area, and tennesee is actually very moderate in its climate, and very inexpensive.

Yeah I was going to say CO, theres a lot of jobs out there too!
