Well dang, looks like I missed saying goodbye for the weekend. Got delayed at work meeting with students, then stopped at the store. I wanted to see if they'd gotten any dates in today. FINALLY. They have been out of my favorite kind for two or three weeks. Shipments only come in one time weekly. These are coming from suppliers far away - ultimately shipped in from Tunisia. Yum. Yum. I am in the process of gorging on them.

Then, stopped at the thrift shop:
Voila! Good find. Older model Craftsman Miter saw -- non electric, the hand operated type. Just $15. It came home with me. I've needed this...
Found some other things, too, of coruse...

Good morning! Sooooooooo glad that we are back to normal time!

I had a busy, busy weekend. I did get quite a bit accomplished, though not as much as I'd like to have (so far as housework went, anyway).

Lost my cell a week ago. Still hasn't turned up. Guess I'll have to break down and get a new one.
Bought some needed (and wanted) items this weekend.

Managed to find some decent garden tools at the swap meet, as well as more pet carriers for my button quail.

Found & bought a small tiller on Craigslist. It won't break ground but will do that annual top til when it's needed. I really want to get some gardens here.

We have one small patch that we dug this summer. We spent some time starting a second dig of that yesterday & got 1/3 of the way through. Once we finish the length of it (long bed) then we'll go back and double dig it & mix in compost (even if it isn't fully rotted--it can continue overwinter!) If we're lucky, I can get this one done before it freezes so it'll be ready for early spring plants and have some time then to get a second bed ready. I think I"ll bring in someone with a rear tined tiller in the spring for the first digging of the rest of the beds.

Starting to plan permanent gardens here -- fantasizing about fruit and nut trees, for example. Of course I want about six times as many as this yard will hold. Seriously tossing around the idea of SOMEDAY having a big greenhouse built where the pool is now. It's awfully tempting! Also contemplating just allowing a couple thousand gallons of water to remain in the deep end (and have a pump rigged to remove excess automatically) then terrace gardening the shallow end. So many ideas...so little time & energy (and not enough $) to carry them all out!

Hmm. What else? Oh, did some more work out in the Button Quail Aviary (Boyd & Robin -- I know you weren't here for the explanation of this. I have a room that is built on the back of my garage. The former owners of this house added it as a changing room for the pool. It hit me a few weeks ago that it would make a good room for my button quail. It's easy to heat in the winter. In the summer, a small window air conditioner should be plenty to cool it. It's got water resistant wall coverings that are easy to wipe down, concrete floor, outdoor carpeting, outlets, and fluorescent tube lighting.) Finally getting it arranged out there how I want it. Once I find three more pet carriers then I'll be able to finalize things out there.

Oh, and ran into a fried who is going to give me more 6 quail cages. He got out of the quail business entirely. I'm not sure exactly what size these are, or how they are made, but his are built with lumber & wire, mostly. These will probably go in "Coturnix Land" in the garage. Sounds like each may be big enough for a covey, but I'm not sure yet. If they are, then OMG, I have enough cages for 10 more coveys. I won't be hatching that many, though, ROFL.
