Ever feel lonely when you dont have any PM's waiting for you?

Quick update on Uno and D'Oprah ..

Uno is 5 weeks old .. stunted and runty .. but happy and energetic.

D'Oprah is still being a great little companion .. but she has started laying again and she's in the brooder in the garage with Uno ..

I've got to get them outside.. I just hope they become fast friends so that D'Oprah has a friend .. poor baby.

Agreed!!

My neigbor has 12 chickens and a rooster, AND a duck. She called last night and said her coop is not weather proof and she really wants me to take them ALL. Right now I have my 19 chickens, 3 Guineas and a cat living in there

It has been over a week since anyone has come out of there. I can't add more than 3 at the very most and I wonder about them getting picked on being the newbies and the others having "coop fever" already. Any opinions? Oh and can you have just 1 duck and what would I do with it right now?

Yes. The dog is still around. He is a neutered male black lab that showed up Sat. We posted a pic at Caseys and I posted him in the lost and found on craigslist. The dog and I have a love/hate relationship going on. He barks at night so then Eddie hears this and barks. We havent' gotten a full nights sleep since he showed up! He looks well fed and is an older dog. He has to belong to somebody.

I would NOT compromise the happiness and mental well-being of the animals I already own because of a lack of planning on a neighbor's part. Maybe you can offer to help her throw up some insulation for HER animals ..

Oh I'm with ya!! I don't understand why she let this happen. She has had chickens before, her DH made her butcher them. She really wanted to do it again and keep them. Well he finally said yes, they just started laying in Sept and now that its cold she is desperate to find someone to care for them. I just simply don't have room right now. If it were a month ago before it got 18 below zero I could work with that, but I can bet you that not all the sweet talkin in the world is going to get my DH to build or heat another coop right now

The guineas are with the chickens? I thought they had their own place?

Many people raise their ducks with their chickens. When we hatched Nester, he was an only "water fowl" of that age at the time. Of course he was a goose, but not much difference. We had baby chicks around the same age (much smaller though) and he grew up with them for quite a while. When we moved him to the waterfowl pen we still used to take him out to visit them.

So you are saying I could put the duck with the chickens right now and give him a pool in the Spring? The stupid Guineas would not go in their house but I couldn't keep them out of the chicken coop, so they won! The all get along just fine, the cat is the only one not happy with the arrangement. She peed on Kennys side of the bed one to many times!!
