I would NOT compromise the happiness and mental well-being of the animals I already own because of a lack of planning on a neighbor's part. Maybe you can offer to help her throw up some insulation for HER animals ..

Oh I'm with ya!! I don't understand why she let this happen. She has had chickens before, her DH made her butcher them. She really wanted to do it again and keep them. Well he finally said yes, they just started laying in Sept and now that its cold she is desperate to find someone to care for them. I just simply don't have room right now. If it were a month ago before it got 18 below zero I could work with that, but I can bet you that not all the sweet talkin in the world is going to get my DH to build or heat another coop right now

Could you move her uninsulated coop, then put insulation in it at your place? Position far from your other birds & it will also be a quarantine area?

I'm thinking free building (if she has a coop at all)...

The guineas are with the chickens? I thought they had their own place?

Many people raise their ducks with their chickens. When we hatched Nester, he was an only "water fowl" of that age at the time. Of course he was a goose, but not much difference. We had baby chicks around the same age (much smaller though) and he grew up with them for quite a while. When we moved him to the waterfowl pen we still used to take him out to visit them.

So you are saying I could put the duck with the chickens right now and give him a pool in the Spring? The stupid Guineas would not go in their house but I couldn't keep them out of the chicken coop, so they won! The all get along just fine, the cat is the only one not happy with the arrangement. She peed on Kennys side of the bed one to many times!!

I had geese, ducks, chickens (standard & banties), and guineas all housed together for a while. It worked okay. They mostly made their own peace...

There! All caught up. Had to run into work for meetings that we don't usually have. I usually don't go in during the day on Tuesday, ugh. Still have to teach in a bit.

I'm tired already today. At least I know what my work schedule will be a year from now, though, ROFL. (That's what the meetings were about. Next Fall's schedule...)

Morning!

Just got up and did my morning critter rounds & sat down with a coffee. Something is pinched or out of place somewhere in my upper right back / shoulder region. Not pleasant, but I'll survive....

I need to grade a stack of tests before I go to work later. Looking forward to break, that's for sure!
