Here is the Orange Slice Cake thingy
2 cups sugar
1 cup real butter (unsalted)
4 eggs
1 half cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
1 lb dates
1 lb orange slices
2 cups pecans
1 cup coconut
3 and a half cups all purpose flour
Topping:
1 and a half cups orange juice
2 cups powdered sugar
Mix butter and sugar till creamy.
Add eggs 1 at a time, beat well after each addition.
Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to cream mixture.
Place flour in large bowl and add chopped ingredients.
Add flour and chopped stuff to cream mixture.
Makes very stiff dough, mix with hand.
Bake at 250 in loaf pans for 2-2 and a half hours.
Topping: Stir powdered sugar into orange juice.
While cake is still hot, pour glace over top and sides.
Leave in pan over night.
We tasted it yesterday about a week or a lil more after my mom made some and it was 10 times better after a week than it was the first day or so after she made it. Just put some in a different container, put it in the back of the fridge, and forget about it for a lil while then see how much better it is later.
