I was going to comment on NY almost burning down her coop. Gosh, how scary! Glad they caught it in time!! Last spring we went to an auction and brought home some bantams. The only place we had to put them was in a room that had my baby ducks in it. The ducks were in a playpen brooder with a brooder lamp hanging above it. We were showing them all off that evening and one of those darns birds was roosting on the edge of the playpen under the lamp and her feathers started smoldering! You could smell it when you walked in, but she acted like nothing was going on.
Needless to say, Colton didn't keep them around too long!
I found scorched feathers on one of my hens too! I didn't see it happen but I figured thats what she did. "Oh this feels warm, oh I like this, oh......... shoot! That hurts!!
