Quail sound so cool. I always wanted to raise some but have not gotten DH talked into building more cages. If you get too many boys are they the eating kind or have a better idea? I don't even know why I would want to raise them myself cuz I would end up with way too many. When you said you filled the bator up I was thinking 48 cuz that is what mine holds lol.
All vegetarians here, so they aren't the eating kind.
I have button quail & coturnix quail. Button quail are to small for anything other than a pixie to eat.
They aren't much bigger when full grown than a Chicken's chick is when it's a teeny baby. Baby button quail are about the size of a bumblebee.
Some people do eat coturnix quail, but frankly, they are pretty small, too. They are also EXTREMELY quiet (or mine are, anyway...) They are really good egg layers, though. Mine are just pets.
I have a
Brinsea Mini Advance incubator. It holds 7 chicken eggs or 12 quail eggs.
It is unbelievable how much the little coturnix quail can eat and drink. My four birds empty a quart jar of water every single DAY. They drink more than my three cats put together. Their appetites are pretty hefty, too.
